weekend inventory

Man, what a four day weekend can do for your spirit.  Four fabulous days of no work and all play with King Henry.
It did us both good.  In four days of mostly just the two of us hanging out, Hank started finally pulling himself up consistently and giving open mouth kisses.  Pulling himself up is a fun milestone, but when he looks me directly in the eye and comes in for a kiss, mouth agape, I could die of cute overload.  He is so deliberate in his actions lately.  He hears the word "No." and gives a big adorable grin.  The kind that you can't help but smile at in return and then he quickly returns to the original action that made you tell him "no" in the first place.
Friday I had errands to run and a house to clean.  Hank is the perfect side kick.  Making ladies laugh at Target, the grocery store and generally any where we step foot inside.  We took a solid afternoon snoozer and woke up when DJ got home from work.  Once Hank went to sleep that night, DJ and I watched that new Wizard of Oz movie.  It sucked.  We didn't even finish it.

Saturday, DJ had to work again so Hank and I spent the day as best buds again.  We danced and sang to record after record.  We walked and walked and walked around town.  We played inside and outside.  Took THREE naps and watched Finding Nemo for the millionth time.  DJ came home and we told him that we needed to go back to Target because I managed to forget formula and wipes.  We stopped over at my aunt and uncles, chatted and played with the neighbors chickens.  Went to Target and then planned to go to a festival.  Little did we know that there were fireworks that night at the festival and by the time we got there it was crazy busy and with no stroller packed up I was not going to walk that far.  We went home and dosed our anxiety ridden dog to put him to sleep prior to the booming fireworks.  This anxiety is a newly acquired thing Bowie has.  He shakes and pants uncontrollably and he just wants to be up your ass.

Sunday was father's day, so being the good wifey that I am, I let DJ sleep in.  Once daddy woke up, Hank and I gave him his card and gift.  Unfortunately, husband needed to work on his car.  Not the most fun way to spend the first part of the day, but we had plans to meet up with my father in law, step mother in law and sister in law for dinner.  We got to the restaurant and walked up to my in laws.  They all stood up and rushed back to the car.  My in laws own a auto body shop and the fire department had called to say that there was a fire.  We immediately drove to the shop to see how bad the damage was.  Luckily it was not terrible.  It could have been much much worse and everyone was grateful for that.  Need less to say dinner was rescheduled til this weekend.
I guess you could say it was a father's day to remember.  ;)

we had zoo much fun

To date DJ and I have been to the Detroit Zoo 3 times together.  Our first trip will never be topped.  It was perfect weather and ALL of the animals were out.  Last time was the zoomance trip and I was a giant circle of a pregnant person, however it was still really fun because there were a lot of animals out and about.  This time we went with our big boy Hank, and the animals were not terribly cooperative.  There were still a lot of animals out, but they weren't active enough to make a 7.5 month old excited.
Hank really loved the tiger statue...
 ...the bear water fountain...

...the carousel...
...our picnic...

...the polar bear tunnel...

...and the afternoon snoozer he took after the polar bears.
The animals however, he could take 'em or leave 'em.  Hank likes to be out and about though so we would still list this under the "successful" column of the adventures in parenting list, if we were the sort of parents that kept a tally of the successful and unsuccessful adventures one partakes in during the first year of parenting.

weekend inventory

I do not know exactly where all my time goes, but it's really been getting away from me lately.  Before I know it, it's Friday and I've only blogged once.

I'm going to turn it all around though next week, I can feel it.  I missed most of this week, but let's just sweep this one under the bridge, water under the rug, eh, erm, reverse those.

Last weekend was too short per usual.
Friday I came home from work and found Hank and DJ taking a late nap so I thought I would attempt to get a run out of the way, instead of having to wait until Hank went to sleep for the night.  I also made the decision to switch up my route.  A fateful decision that was.  I normally run on Hines Drive which is nice and scenic, but I thought I would run through downtown Plymouth for a little change of pace.  I had my play list turned way up and didn't realize that the "music in the park" series had already started.  There were a ton of people down there.  I tried running through them, but there were too many obstacles to maneuver so I just started walking.  That's when I got the worst side stitch possible.  I tried to stretch, but again, there were tons of people so I was trying to not look like a total weirdo with my awkward side stretches.  I got out of the crowd finally, stretched out and started back up.  I could see a train on the tracks up ahead but I kept running hoping that it would get a move on by the time I reached it.  Nope.  So I stretched some more, because I was still suffering from that cramp.  I waited....and waited...thought about going underneath and then chickened out...  After a good fifteen minutes of waiting and telling people in their cars how to get around the train, I decided I had better just run back to where I came from.  I ran all over the neighborhood though trying to find the nearest route to get past the train.  I ended up going back to where I came from in the end, back through the concert in the park and all the people.  By the time I got back home I was sweaty and exhausted.  The train didn't move for an hour and ten minutes you guys.  On a Friday night at 7pm-ish!  Can I call someone to complain about this?  I'm still outraged and it's 4 days after the fact.
I spent lots of time with my guys the rest of the weekend, we hit up a 1 year old's birthday party and I started watching Game of Thrones finally.
I pumped through the first season and I am six episodes into the second season.  What have I been doing the past three seasons you guys?  Missing out, that's what.
Sunday, Hank turned 8 months old.  That boy is ah-mazing.
I'm already done with my work week by the by.  I took Friday and Monday off just for the hell of it.  We planned to go camping, but plans fell through so now I'm just going to re-lax.  I have big plans to stalk down some new clothes for Henry, play at the park and drink some wine.  Oh and I guess celebrate daddy's day.
I'll be back tomorrow to finally show you some pictures from Hank's first trip to the Detroit zoo.

weekend inventory

I had such a great weekend you guys and I hope you did too!
Friday I went and did a little shopping and then came home to find my two guys hanging out playing on the floor together.  Talk about cute.  Hank was scootin' around in a t-shirt and diaper.  DJ made me dinner while I played with my little bear and then got him ready for bed.
Once Hank was down for the night, I strapped on my running shoes and got in a quick run between thunderstorms.  It was awesome weather for an evening run.  Humid and warm, which for some reason made me extra happy.

Saturday I had plans with my bestie, Megan, to go out for the night for drinks.  It's just been way too long for a good girls night out, just to talk and vent.  We went to the bar right down the street from our houses.  Much needed drinks and conversation.
Sunday was the best day.  I got up with Hank and let DJ sleep in a little. Hank and I were extra productive.  Meg and I had more plans on Sunday.  We were going to a run in downtown Detroit followed by a vinyasa yoga class.  Hank and I ate breakfast, worked on our composting, threw in a load of laundry, emptied all the garbage cans and took out the garbage, got dinner prepared for later and emptied the dish washer.  That's when I discovered that the brand new carafe I just bought from Target a week prior, was annihilated by the dishwasher.  Damn that dishwasher can hardly get the broccoli remnants off my baking dishes, but it will warp the hell out of a plastic carafe.  (It was only $3 so I'm pretty sure I can spring for another)

Meg picked me up and we got coffee, met with another girlfriend and ran from the yoga studio down to Comerica Park and back.  I was already exhausted but we went up to the yoga studio where the instructor had fresh pressed juice for us and we found a very full and warm studio.  It was an hour and fifteen minutes of the best yoga I have ever done.  I wouldn't consider myself an advanced yogi, but I am surely not beginner either.  This class was PERFECT! I hate going to a class at a gym because every class is taught like no one has any idea what yoga is all about.  The instructor, Monica was great and I felt like I sweat out every ounce of water I had to possibly sweat out.  We chanted, balanced and it was just what a Sunday yoga session called for.  I even learned a new arm balance pose that makes me feel like the most centered and strong woman ever.
After yoga we treated ourselves to brunch and met the most adorable beast, Lola.  Lola is a two year old great dane and a precious giant baby.  Her owner taught her not to slobber kisses all over people so she would just nuzzle her nose against your cheek to show affection.  Hello, heart melting all over the patio.
excuse my uniboob-not sure why my boobs look uneven either geez

We drove home afterwards and luckily for me Hank was all primed for an afternoon nap.  Oh happy day.  We napped and woke back up to dinner smelling delicious, just as I planned.

weekend inventory

Holiday weekends always throw me for a loop.  I never seem to know what day it is for the rest of the week.

This weekend was lovely.  We spent Saturday napping, cleaning and making snacks for the hockey game.  Sunday was a trip to the zoo and Monday was pajama day, as planned.

More on the trip to the zoo tomorrow though.  Tonight we're going to see Of Monsters and Men and we will probably get soaked.  It's raining cats and dogs and of course we have lawn seats for this show.  We're going with our friends Kristin from SXMW and Mat, plus last night I was talking to my bestie, only to discover her and her man will be at the show too! So happy!  We can all sport the drowned rat look together and it will be adorable.  There are talks of bringing a canoe and a patio umbrella though just to be safe.  Ha.

Enjoy your Monday Tuesday night, staying dry!  Thank goodness for another day off tomorrow!

long weekends are for lovers

I am so ready for this weekend even though I don't technically have a long weekend.  I'm working tomorrow morning.  I had a 3 day weekend last weekend though and this will be my third Monday off in a row.  Mondays are awful terrible things and I'm really feeling like everyone should have Mondays off to stay at home in their pajamas.  Saturday and Sunday should be set aside for doing fun things or catching up on necessities, while Monday is simply a day to prepare your soul for the work week, all the while in your jams and most likely laying in bed or on the couch.
I spent yesterday preping for Memorial weekend.  Really good stuff.  Between pretending to work and watching a gaggle of geese waddle past my office window on three separate occasions, I did some googling to find something red, white and blue to make or bake.  I was hoping to find something outside of the strawberries-and-blueberries-arranged-to-make-a-flag idea or the jello-whipped-cream-layered-look.  This was a tall order if you can imagine.  I did find a few cute ideas though.  Pancakes that are super patriotic are most definitely getting made and eaten in a super american fashion.
In other news I got the iPhone 5 finally.  It's super sleek and sexy the way iPhones should be.
Isn't it the cutest the way Bella is all up in Hank's business.  I think he might start calling her "mama".

Happy weekending to you and be sure to remember those fallen heroes that gave their lives for us and our country.  We will be getting our bums to the zoo on Sunday.  Fingers crossed for good weather and a happy baby!

oh hey sunshine

Long live lawn work warm days!

Over the past few weekends we worked on our lawn.  Lawn work is truly an ongoing battle.  Nowadays I have a reason to sit down and supervise though, as apposed to just sitting and supervising before and being referred to as a lazy bum.  Henry conveniently needs to be tended to the minute the lawn work gets too hard.  Ha.
The lawn bags have been never ending each week.  The more we buy the more crap we decided needs to be ripped out and replaced.  Since cutting down one of the enormous trees in our back yard we are finally able to plant more grass and eliminate some mulch.  When we moved in to this house the whole back yard was covered by weeds, trees and overgrowth.  Over the past two years we have practically doubled the size of our backyard.  It's been a lot of work though.

Sunday we got up early and went to Lowes.  We bought mulch and grass seed, among a cart load of other things that we needed.  Once we got home I decided to try putting Henry on the grass, just to see how he liked it.
He LOVED it.  Henry was all about the way the grass felt.  He kept pulling the grass and rubbing it.  He was a very happy camper.  After a few minutes I set him on his blanket and he kept pulling the blanket onto his legs so that he could reach the grass again.  Serious cuteness.  Daddy slaved over the front lawn and Henry and I snuck inside for a nap.  It's hard work watching daddy.

We woke up after our nap and treated ourselves to some ice cream.  Well DJ and I had ice cream.  Henry got to watch all the cute puppies and enjoy the afternoon walk.
